The Effect of Tahaawur Strategy on Ninth Graders’ Speaking Skills at Wahdah Islamiyah Junior High School Makassar

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Tahaawur Strategy on developing speaking skills among ninth-grade students at Wahdah Islamiyah Junior High School Makassar. The study was motivated by the students’ low speaking ability and weak oral communication skills, caused by limited opportunities to practice Arabic, low linguistic fluency, and insufficient interaction within the learning environment. To ensure the clarity and validity of the research methodology, information regarding the population and sample should be added. The study involved ninth-grade students at SMP Wahdah Islamiyah as the research population. The sample consisted of two classes selected purposively: one experimental group and one control group. The experimental group consisted of 22 students who were taught using the Tahaawur Strategy, while the control group consisted of 22 students who received conventional instruction. The findings revealed a significant increase in the experimental group's mean score from 79.09 to 92.27, outperforming the control group (82.27). The t-test confirmed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.000), while the N-Gain analysis yielded a moderate effectiveness score of 0.61. These results indicate that the Tahaawur Strategy effectively improved students’ speaking skills, particularly in fluency, pronunciation accuracy, and organization of ideas during oral communication. This study contributes to the development of interactive teaching strategies in Arabic language instruction, especially in enhancing speaking skills. Therefore, the researcher recommends the implementation of dialogue-based strategies and the creation of a supportive language environment that encourages students to actively practice Arabic both inside and outside the classroom.
